Hna. Johnson and I went to the Santo Domingo Zoo today. We took office Elders Huey and Barquero. On p-day they have to study until 10:00am so we picked them up at 10:00 and arrived at the Zoo about 11:00am.
When Pres. Almonte told the office Elders to adapt to our schedule while we trained them, he said it also included changing their p-day to Saturday as well. One of the first thing Elder Huey and Elder Barquero asked was to go to the Santo Domingo Zoo. Missionaries never get to go to the Zoo because it is always closed on Monday, the p-day for all missionaries. Elder Huey and Elder Barquero consider themselves very fortunate for the opportunity to go to the Zoo.
Only an hour into our Zoo visit we got a phone call and had to jump on the Zoo tour train and head back to the main entrance. The other office Elders had locked themselves out of the mission office and were driving all the way to the Zoo to pick up an extra set of office keys. Well, when we got back to the front gate they called us back to say they didn’t need the keys after all and they weren’t coming. We took advantage of the opportunity and went to the car, took out our ice chest and fixed ourselves lunch.
Our trip to the Zoo was wonderful. Hna. Johnson commented afterward that the Zoo was one of the best attractions in the Dominican Republic we’ve been too. I agree.
On our way home we stopped by the home of the Branch Pres. of the Los Arroyos Branch. We had a check to drop off to Hna. Rosa Lugo, the Br. Pres.’s wife. She is a dentist and has been helping several of the missionaries with their teeth problems. The Zoo is within the boundaries of the Los Arroyos Branch and the Lugo’s home is only a half mile from the entrance to the Zoo.
