Monday, July 13, 2009 (5:00am Depart for airport)

Dan, Mindy & kids were at the flower shop at 5:00am to see us off. That is the time and place for our rendezvous with Jared, Tere & sons. Jim & Betty were there to see us off too. Jared & family drove their car, helped us at curbside check-in with all of our luggage then drove our Ford ’05 Expedition back to the shop. Where it will be used by Nathan & Jacob as a backup delivery vehicle until we get home off of our mission.

(BAGGAGE, BAGGAGE, BAGGAGE) Last year when the price of gas peaked at $4.25/gal the airlines really felt the pinch so they started a policy of charging a fee for every bag checked and an extra fee for their weight. At the Delta Airlines baggage check-in we had to pay an extra $430.00 for our luggage! Wow, that’s more than our airfare. The bad thing is we will have to pay it again when we leave the MTC in 12 days.

(MTC) Pam & Debbie Quist’s close friend Ruth Williams picked us up at the airport in SLC and drove us to the MTC. It was very nice of Ruth to offer. She and Pam got to visit in the car the whole way, they had a very good time.
Now we really feel like we are on a mission. We are immersed in the missionary spirit here at the MTC. We now have our own name tags and fit right in with the other 30 senior couple missionaries here with us. Five hours of orientation have left us full of the zeal of a missionary.
