Again this Saturday Hna. Johnson I had to head out early so we couldn’t take our usual walk in the park. But this time we did manage to leave on time for Azua. Actually we didn’t stop at Azua we drove straight thru to Duvergé, about 4 and a half hours. We delivered supplies and mail along the way as well. We made it back to Neyba in time for the 4:00pm baptismal service for Jessica Cuevas and Nicauri Diaz.

This was the first baptism Hna. Johnson and I have attended in “El Campo” since we started visiting Neyba and Duvergé each weekend. Usually we only go as far as Azua and spend Saturday night there and then drive the rest of the way to Neyba for Sacrament meeting that starts at 9:00am. Since all of the baptismal services are on Saturday afternoon, Hna. Johnson and I never get to attend. But this time we were there for the whole evenings activities. It was great. The talks were all given by the members of the branch and they were well prepared.

At 6:00pm we had a special Branch activity. We watched “The Testaments” projected on a large screen we brought from the mission office. In spite of some technical difficulties like a wad of goo on the DVD disc that made the show stop twice, it was very good. The members loved it and there were several investigators there too. There were over 50 people in attendance in all. There was also a special program put on by the Young Women of the branch. We were very impressed with how well prepared the young girls were and just how good their performance was.

We ended the evening’s activities with a After the Hot Dog BBQ with boiled cabbage. Yes… boiled cabbage, not sauerkraut. It’s another one of those unique Dominican dishes. I didn’t try any but it was all gobbled up by all of the branch members in short order. Next we had yellow cake frosted by Hna. Johnson. It was all very good and there wasn’t a speck left over. I think the whole evening was a huge success. There was a lot of participation by the branch members, it was well attended by investigators and the Spirit was especially strong at the baptismal service and the movie “The Testaments”. Now we plan to do it all again next weekend in Duvergé.

Hna. Johnson and I didn’t get back to our room in Azua until after 10:00pm. We didn’t pack any dinner for ourselves because we honestly thought there would be lots of leftovers. Thank goodness for Pizza delivery from the pizza place just down the road from us. They were still open and delivering or Hna. Johnson and I would have had to go to bed hungry. Plus we have plenty of pizza left over for Sunday night too.
