This morning my “Diligencias” (Errands) went smoothly. I went to Centro de Servicio and picked up supplies, dropped off mail and picked up our incoming mail. I was there at 9:45 and caught the staff of the “Almacen” (Warehouse) eating their breakfast. Eating breakfast this late is not unusual here in the Dominican Republic. All Dominicans eat breakfast at about 10:00am. Their lunch hour is between 2:00 and 3:00pm and Dinner is never before 8:00pm. In fact most Dominican restaurants don’t serve dinner until after 7:00pm.
After lunch we left for the “South” for our two day vacation to celebrate our 39th anniversary. We drove straight through to Bahoruca 16 Km south of Barahona in only 3 hours. We could drive without dodging pot holes or taking construction detours, the road improvements out to the south are all done and they are wonderful.
We are staying at a resort called, “Casa Bonita”. Elder and Hna. Jones recommended it to us. They’ve stayed here several times. It is located on a hillside overlooking the Caribbean Sea, it is picture postcard perfect.
On our way into the resort I took a wrong turn and had to turn around on a narrow mountain road. It was a bad idea, I high centered the car and I had to have some local boys help me push the car off of the mound of dirt.
The first thing Hna. Johnson and I did was go for a swim in the Casa Bonita pool overlooking the ocean, the pool and view are beautiful. Later we ate at the restaurant and had a very good meal. Hna. Johnson ordered the tropical fruit salad with chicken. I had baked fish in a Coco sauce with vegetables; it was very good but the two fish were whole, fins, heads, eyes and all. Fish served this way was a first for me.
After dinner we sat on the pool deck chairs and admired the stars and the Milky Way. It was beautiful, the stars and Milky Way were very bright and seemed so close we could touch them.
