Today President Almonte had the Elders from Bani Zone at the Mission Home. They, like each Zone before, had their regularly scheduled personal interviews. Then at noon they were treated to their Christmas dinner with Pres. & Hna. Almonte.
The Christmas dinner had an extra special meaning for the Elders in the Bani Zone today. It might be their only meal all day. Today is the first day of the month and the “Apoyo” (missionary’s support money) didn’t make it into their accounts today as it should have. Almost all of the Elders and Hna.’s in the mission are out of money. Some don’t budget their expenses well and don’t even have money for food. This big dinner might be the only meal some of the Elders have all day.
Normally the missionary “Apoyo” is in their accounts by the last day of the month or for sure by the first day of the month. The reason the mission “Apoyo” didn’t make it into the missionary’s credit cards was the long Thanksgiving holiday weekend. All day today I received dozens of phone calls from missionaries asking if the “Apoyo” would be here today. I had to tell them that they would have to wait until tomorrow.
