Today was a long day but a great day. We started by picking up Hno. Henry Felipe in Sabana Yegua (10 kilometers outside of Azua) on our way to Neyba. He is the Secretary in the mission presidency. He came to Neyba with us to convene a “Disciplinary Council” on a good brother in the Neyba branch. Under the direction of the Mission President it takes three priesthood holders to conduct the council so sitting in on the council was my first councilor in the Neyba branch presidency, Hno. Francisco Vasquez “Pachico” and I.

This was one of the wonderful “Disciplinary Councils” that we love to hold for good brothers and sisters in the church. It marks the end of a road back to full fellowship in the church. It is the culmination of the Saviors promise to forgive the sinner that has truly repented and “though his sins be red as scarlet they shall be white as snow”. This good member of the branch has done all he has been asked to do by church leaders and is now able to partake of the sacrament again in full fellowship. The atonement of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is truly a blessing and a miracle.

In an interview months ago with this good brother before this “Disciplinary Council” was scheduled I asked him what his plans for the future were. Without hesitation he said he wanted most to be worthy again to attend the temple. He said, “as soon as I have my blessings restored and have a temple recommend again I’m going to catch the first bus to the capital to attend the temple”. This afternoon after the disciplinary council was finished the very next thing we did was have a temple recommend interview. The only thing this good man has left to do is find a member of the mission presidency for his second interview so he can fulfill his dream and once again attend the temple worthily.

And speaking of Temple recommend interview, President and Hna. Almonte spent the morning in Duvergé. After the block of meetings Pres. Almonte conducted 6 temple recommend interviews for the members there that are planning to go to the temple in January. (See: Friday, December 18, 2009) He also called Hno. Tomas Moquete and Tuco Mendez as councilors in the Duvergé branch presidency. This is great… I have councilors! Two other brethren were also put into callings in the Sunday School presidency, they are Hno. Hector Mendez and his brother Alexis Mendez. This has been quite an exciting day for members in both branches, Neyba and Duvergé.

On our way back to Azua we dropped off Bro. Henry Felipe at his home in Sabani Yegua. We picked him up shortly after 7:00 this morning and got him back home a little after 6:00pm. He was with us for 11 hours today just so he could conduct the disciplinary council that lasted about 45 minutes. He is a great servant of the Lord and member of the mission presidency. His son turned 2 years old today and I’m sure he would have rather spent the whole day with his family but he is a dedicated man and fulfills his calling without complaint.
