This morning I did my regular errands including file reports at Centro de Servicio, Pay bills at the Bella Vista Mall payment kiosk. On my way back to the office I stopped at Cecomsa to purchase some things. Cecomsa is an electronics store that is no different than any electronics store in the states. I needed to purchase a backup power supply and surge suppressor for one of the office computers. I also bought an eight gig SDHC memory card for my camera. Each transfer day I take a lot of pictures and last Tuesday the memory card that came with the camera was completely full before I finished. This eight gig card will work nicely.

We are still very busy in the office with transfer work. The AP’s are working hard tying up the loss ends on the office computers and filing reports. AP’s Elder Bates and Elder Keys are in a threesome right now because they are training a new AP. His name is Elder Franciois Bussatti and he is from Puerto Rico. He speaks a little English which will help Hna. Johnson in the office a lot. Today is his birthday, he turned 23. He has only been a member of the church since June 2007 which means he left on his mission after he had been member for a year and a half. He is a very good Elder, hard working and dedicated.

This afternoon Hna. Johnson and I did our weekend shopping a day earlier than usual. We’ve discovered that the best time to go to Price Smart (The Costco of the DR) in during (or just after) the Dominican lunch hour which is between 1:00 and 3:00pm. The roads have far less traffic on them and the parking lot at Price Smart is only half full. The rest of the day the parking lot is so packed with cars we can’t find a parking spot. Many customers resort to parking on the landscaping or double parking. Now that we’ve figured out when to go shopping we avoid the aggravation. We are in and out in a flash; it’s great.

Our other shopping stop was at a very large grocery store chain called “National”. Normally we don’t shop there but we’ve heard from the Seniors at the Temple that the downtown National location has a lot of American products. So we took the time and aggravation to fight the traffic and go all the way downtown to look for Kraft Miracle Whip! But alas our trip was in vane, they did have a lot of American Food products like Kraft and Food Club but they had no Miracle Whip.

For the past year we’ve been very lucky and always found Miracle Whip at one store or another but lately they’ve all been out. Today for lunch I used the last drop from our last bottle of Miracle Whip. Now for the near future it looks like Hna. Johnson will be making her potato salad with mayonnaise (Gag!) and I will be making our lunch time sandwiches with mayonnaise too – Yuk!
